White-Tailed Spider

A hunting spider which commonly lives in older homes and which freely wanders at night.

  • Bites are often from clothing whilst getting dressed in the morning, or from spiders falling from the ceiling at night.
  • Very Painful bite. Common belief that bites can result in ongoing tissue necrosis, however there is little clinical evidence to support this. There has been suggestion that necrosis may occur if necrotising bacteria are present in the venom glands of the spider at the time of the bite, rather than from the venom itself.
