Black House Spider

These spiders are commonly found on the outside of houses, especially under eaves. They build a complex web with a defined funnel entrance and are loved by birds, who hover under the eaves to pluck the spider from its web.

  • Commonly confused with Tunnel Webs by people who have little knowledge of spiders.
  • Venom can cause pain and tissue swelling. There may be instances where this spider has been linked to mild tissue necrosis.
  • Non-aggressive spider which takes every opportunity to escape rather than bite.
  • In very wet weather may enter homes.
